Dr Retief Wessels

BChD (UWC), DDS (UGent), MSc (UGent), PhD (UGent)

Namibian born Retief Wessels completed his BChD in Dentistry in 2010 at the University of the Western Cape. Retief did his community Service year at Rob Ferreira hospital, and then worked in private practice for 4 years.

He realized his dream of becoming a Periodontist by relocating to Belgium to complete his Master of Advanced Dentistry in Periodontics at the University of Ghent in Belgium, finishing his studies magna cum laude in 2018. Still in Belgium, he worked in 2 private practices, in one of which he was Head of Clinic gaining valuable insight into practice & patient management. At the same time, he completed a PhD at the University of Ghent where he published multiple articles in international, peer-reviewed A1 journals. At the University he was also responsible for clinical training of prospective Periodontists until 2022.

Retief is a proud founding member of Digital Dentistry Belgium, and hopes to continue sharing his vision on the digitalization of dentistry. His passion for the periodontal field has resulted in him being invited to give presentations in disciplines ranging from digitalization in implantology to complex soft tissue management.

Very happy to come back to his African roots and join the reputable practice of Dr Johann Lochner in 2023, where his scope of dental expertise encompasses procedures as simple and complex as dental implants, periodontal plastic surgery, simple and advanced periodontal treatments.

Retief firmly believes in a multi-disciplinary approach with efficient and clear communication where the patient’s needs are at the center of the treatment.
